International Development Week (IDW) is an annual initiative that was first established in 1991. It offers an opportunity to pause and to acknowledge Canadian contributions to poverty reduction, hunger alleviation and humanitarian assistance in the developing world. This year, Global Affairs Canada is celebrating the United Nation’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) by celebrating the theme “GO FOR THE GOALS.”
Last year during IDW, the International Office launched the Atlantic Council for International Cooperation (ACIC) funded project Films for Change entitled The Atlantic Agri-Women: A Tale of Inspiration and Innovation. This project was created with the purpose of connecting youth with women leaders in the Atlantic Region by giving them the opportunity to explore gender within the Agricultural Industry through film making.
Four of ÿմ’s Faculty of Agriculture students were trained by experts in film making and photovoice methodologies and created a short film. Their projects will be displayed in our upcoming IDW event showcasing contributions to many global goals including gender equality and food zero hunger.
